Ruby

A deep red treasure hidden in the earth, prized by merchants and collectors across the valley.

The Ruby is a rare and vibrant gemstone found deep within the mines of Stardew Valley or occasionally harvested from geodes. Known for its intense red hue and sparkling facets, it is one of the most valuable minerals in the region, often sought after by collectors and merchants alike. While it holds no direct combat utility, its high market value makes it a cornerstone for players aiming to accumulate wealth quickly during the early and mid-game stages.

Lore & Background

Beyond their mythological significance, Rubies are highly coveted by the local merchant, who pays a premium for any specimen brought to his shop. They are also considered one of the most cherished gifts for certain villagers, particularly those with an affinity for minerals or luxury items. In the hands of a skilled artisan, though not directly craftable into weapons in this world, they represent the pinnacle of geological fortune found within the valley's crust.

In Their Own Story

The pickaxe struck the dark wall with a dull thud, sending a shower of dust into the stagnant air of Level 45. Elias squinted through his lantern light, expecting another common quartz or perhaps a piece of iron ore. Instead, something caught the dim glow—a flash of deep, blood-red brilliance nestled in a crack of the stone. He brushed away the debris to reveal a perfect Ruby, pulsing with an inner fire that seemed to warm his cold fingers in the damp mine shaft.

Reader's Guide

Rubies are primarily obtained by mining nodes on levels 40 and above in the Mines, as well as from Geodes cracked at the Blacksmith or found in the Quarry. They can also be discovered in the Volcano Dungeon of Ginger Island. As a gemstone, Rubies cannot be crafted into tools but serve as high-value trade goods. Selling them provides significant capital for farm upgrades, seeds, and equipment repairs. Their base sell price is substantial, increasing further if harvested at Iridium quality using upgraded pickaxes or the Tiller profession. For social progression, giving a Ruby to villagers who love gems (such as Clint or Sebastian) yields maximum friendship points. They are also essential components for specific late-game crafting recipes, including the Prismatic Shard recipe which requires multiple rare minerals.
